On the 1st of September the School of Advanced Journalism classes started. Working in news rooms during ten months of intense studies, 19 young people will learn standards and practices of Western journalism and how it can be applied in Republic of Moldova.
At the opening ceremony of the new study year the instructors were presented: Alexandru Cantir (Radio BBC), Eugen Ribca (The Association of Electronical Press), Sorina Stefirta (Timpul), Vasile Botnaru (Radio Free Europe), Vlad Bercu (Business Expert), Petru Macovei (The Association of Independent Press ).
The course schedule for 2008-2009 was modified taking into account remarks and suggestions of trainers and alumni from previous years. The schedule was coordinated by Frank van Vree, dean of Journalism Department of the University of Amsterdam, who offered assistance for improving the quality of study process.
The new program includes more integrated lectures into modules and contains two new courses Journalism about science and environment and Editing rules. The internship was postponed for the end of the study year for giving the possibility to the students to check their capacities in media institutions where they work.
Also, on the first day the meeting between students and alumni was organised. The former students shared their experience with the new trainees and offered advices how to get over in difficult situations during their career as journalists.
The School of Advanced Journalism was opened on 4th of September 2006. The School is a joint project of the Independent Journalism Centre, the Missouri School of Journalism and the Paris-based Journalism School and Training Centre. The project is financed by the MATRA Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by Press Now.
